I realize this is 2 years old, but it would've been cool if you added more Degrassi clips in this. I know that's a lot of work though, so I'm not trying to pretend that's easy to do. Girll objectively Eli is pretty toxic from start to finish lol but as a character, he is a 10/10 and he's likable and adorable so that's why we like him. If it was Peter instead of Eli in some storylines, it would have felt a whole lot different lol

It is such a relief to hear someone else mention that they had to look away during Hannah's suicide scene. I am a lover of horror movies and gore doesn't turn my stomach. Yet when I saw the scene in question (by accident while watching a compilation scene on RUclips), it made me physically ill. For months after seeing it, I would have nightmares about it and I avoided watching videos on RUclips out of fear that I would see it again. It was definitely way too much and after finding out that Hannah uses a different method in the book, it made me wonder if the writers and creators weren't just going for shock factor.

as someone who was actively suicidal when watching this show, i was among the people who saw hannahs full uncensored death scene. it made my ideation SO MUCH worse.

As a fan of the original Degrassi Jr High/ Degrassi High I am in love with the fact that Principal Simpson witnessed the aftermath of a fellow classmate taking his own life and was able to use that to bond with Eli who found Cam. Elite connection ❤

Degrassi first depicted Suicide in it’s previous incarnation “Degrassi High” back in 1991.

i feel like after i rewatched the show from the first time i did, like andrea said, other than bryce and justins second tape (which also included bryce so imma just say bryce overall) the rest of the reasons were just something like 'cry a few days, now im okay'. Losing friends, rumors spreading its all a phase, and sure as a teen it feels like such an impact but other than the rape nothing else should have been a reason. i, personally am a suicidal individual (well ex idek how to explain but i had attempted and almost went into the light but got saved) and it was due to the fact that a really close friend who was my rock, passed away so suddenly that it really destroyed me and i was like 15 at the time. So when i rewatched the show, sorry to say so, but hannahs other reasons were kinda stupid to me, because if they werent then, i should think since education started the whole human population should have killed themselves. I too degrassi is an all time favourite and Cams story line really made sense, the burden of having no one to talk and no one who is around to understand and pretending to be happy for everyone else is what i felt. if anything Hannah could have a lil big scream meltdown and moved on in life and again for eternity i say, she is the reason for the fuck up Clay is in season 4, she mentally destroyed him with anxiety thinking he was a reason and how the other characters changed forever just because she was petty.

Not showing Claude & Cam was brilliant storytelling and very tasteful…I was left traumatized when I saw Hannah’s💔 the p is silent in his name like Campbell soup lol

I watched Time Stands Still when it first aired and I believe they showed both parts together. I still can't really watch that episode because it was so chilling. Props to Ephraim Ellis for an incredible performance (also Craig's reaction always makes me tear up).

13 reasons was too intense for me. I watched it all. But it was too intense and i will never rewatch that show lol i have rewatched degrassi at least 3 times from season 1 to next class. It’s amazing. But 13 reasons bothered me… especially that bathroom scene with the broom stick. I was silent for like a day. Couldn’t say anything at all. Then it made sense to me for dude to show up with the gun but they got him out of there and I’m like okay that’s probably best.. i hate that Hannah is dead lol i know she has to be but like sheesh i liked her character 😂

I'm rewatching seasons 10-14 and Next Class for only the 2nd time and my opinions have totally changed. I thought Holly J was a C U next tuesday, but now she is my queen (Charlotte Arnold carried that show for several seasons). I now love Dallas and also find him to be so cute. I used to think the Owen and Anya relationship was cute, but he belongs in scum for being a huge misogynist and semi-abusive. He was never really redeemed because he was a turd after Anya graduated. If you're putting Dylan in scum, Owen belongs there too! I have not gotten to Next Class yet, but I'm wondering if my opinion of Esme will change. I really disliked her and found her to be way over the top. I can't imagine her being a baby I would die for. Lastly, justice for every black female on this show. They all deserved so much better!!

I know by season 9 the majority of the older cast of TNG have left the show I know Emma and Manny are still in season 9 but they aren't in much of it they were only in one episode plus they came back at the end of season 9 in Degrassi Manhattan

Ellie and Sean were cute Spinner and Terri would have been better than Spinner and Paige because Spinner and Paige became toxic by season 4 of the show 😊 Jimmy and Ellie would have been cute but she rejected him twice 😔 Sean and Emma were OK they had alot of drama together at times Craig and Ashley were toxic and Jimmy and Ashley were toxic too I liked Jimmy better with Tina in season 7 Jay and Manny were very cute

Yep exactly that's what I will always call it Degrassi TNG seasons 1 to 9 and just Degrassi in seasons 10 to 14 😊 or the seasons with E-Clare are seasons 10-14 and the seasons with Emma and Manny and everyone will be TNG that's what I will always go by watching all these degrassi seasons I love degrassi it's awesome 👌😀👏👍❤😊

I can’t hate Hazel but I can’t love her. I just hate the way her character was handled. I forgot about Emma and Kelly. Mia and JT were just kind of meh. I hate Peter and he can go under the prison

I loved this video. It was spot on & I swear I was typing just as you stated the parallels between Craig finding Jimmy and Eli finding Cam. But I remember watching Time stands still in real time in middle school and just being distraught, the empathy I had for Rick at the beginning instantly went away. I don’t think I ever truly forgave Spinner even though he had one of the major character developments. My favorite seasons we’re 1-5 and I can only describe season 10 as iconic.

I really like the repercussions with Maya about Cams death, the anxiety and depression and even the situation with Miles it makes perfect sense i think Degrassi did all this in the best way possible

Another thing I liked about Zoe and Paige's storylines is that even though they were introduced as the mean characters that sometimes went to extremes, that was completely irrelevant in their sexual assaults and I think it just shows that nobody deserves to go through that no matter what

That episode was actually before she was a regular. She was still a recurring in season 2. Other black characters weren't neglected as much. Liberty, Jimmy, Dave, and Dallas had plenty of story lines. Conor and Shay had their share.

I absolutely agree with your checklist; especially the points regarding whether the love triangle pushes the story forward and helps character development/growth. Both factors definitely effect how invested I become in a series or movie. Also! I’m a One Tree Hill superrrr fan and I’m interested in your thoughts on those Love Triangles - er… Love Hexagons, rather. LOL

I know this is kinda irrelevant but when you talked about suicide being contagious, all I think about was the Heathers movie. I know that people weren’t actually killing themselves and they were being murdered, but only two people knew that! Everyone else believed that Regina and the two other guys had actually killed themselves. And then that one girl in the end (can’t remember her name) attempted to kill herself but fail. I’m thinking that she was actually depressed and unhappy with her life. Suicide most likely never crosses her mind until other people “killed themselves”. I sometimes think that if those other deaths didn’t happen then she wouldn’t have tried ending it.

Cam’s death was well executed. I didn’t really grow attached to his character, but I still felt sad thru the other characters reactions esp Dallas and maya. I’m glad they didn’t show it, but I’ve always been a little curious on the method due to its effect on Eli. His reasoning behind death was so sad. He simply wanted to go home and hockey just wasn’t a passion but he felt pressured to do it. Aside from his obvious mental health issues, it felt like that was his only “out” because he felt he had to live up to all these expectations people were holding him to, “the star hockey player”, “the perfect boyfriend”, etc. it seemed to be too much for him but no one listened. I liked the first 2 seasons of 13RW. However I don’t think we needed the visual we got. The sound of her cutting her wrists was just awful. I literally cringed from that. The fact that we had to even see her mother finding her was also a bit much. I hated the concept of sending tapes to people, that messed up a lot of those people for a while because of the guilt they had to feel when they really didn’t do anything to her (except for Bryce). It was heartless of her. I think the whole “welcome to your tape” thing became more of a meme than a thing to take seriously. It was just ridiculous. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the show, but i think it was executed in a way that wasn’t the best.

I do like Frankie but what she did in next class with that racist drawing just rubbed me the wrong way, and it took her forever to realize it was wrong. So I wouldn’t put her in babies I would die for! In my opinion.

I love Degrassi, but the most offensive after school special plot Degrassi covered was texting and driving since the Degrassi writers decided to use it as a plot device to kill off Adam -- a beloved, groundbreaking character. The fact that Adam was never even mentioned when Drew and Becky started dating added insult to injury. I also have never liked any of the drug addiction storylines and I actually skipped most of the scenes. It didn't help that I didn't like any of the characters who were given drug plots (especially Peter and Katie).
